Abraham and Isaac

Genesis 22 is one of the hardest passages in the Bible to read. A father told to offer his only son.

But there's more going on than we might have been taught. Abraham wasn't blindly following orders. He was in a covenant with God, and he had good reason to believe God would make a way.

Every detail of that three day walk up the mountain is a picture of another Father, another Son, and another hill.

Genesis 22:14 NLT Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means "the LORD will provide"). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."
