They walked away. Hope in pieces. Done with Jerusalem, done with the whole thing. Just two ordinary people heading home after the worst weekend of their lives.
And Jesus fell into step beside them.
They didn't recognize Him. But their hearts were burning the whole way.
The Emmaus road story isn't about people who held on heroically. It's about people who gave up and went home; and Jesus went with them anyway.
